In Loving Memory of Ann Brummell

On behalf of the SSAA Sydney Branch, it is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Ann Brummell, a dedicated and inspiring member of the SSAA community whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our organisation and the shooting sports in Australia.
Ann’s journey with SSAA began in 1969, and her unwavering commitment spanned over five decades. In 1970, she joined as a Range Officer at Silverdale, where she actively participated in range maintenance and operations, often taking on tasks with diligence and a hands-on approach. Her leadership extended beyond the range, serving on the NSW Committee from 1972 to 1990, where her vision and determination shaped the future of the association.
Ann’s passion for the sport was evident in her national roles, including SSAA National Secretary from 1978 to 1981 and National Senior Vice President from 1984 to 1986. She held the position of Benchrest Chair from 1979 to 1985 and again from 2009 to 2014, continuing as Assistant to the National Benchrest Chair until 2019. Her dedication to Benchrest shooting was unmatched, mentoring countless juniors and representing Australia at the World Benchrest Championships in 2013, where she was the only female in a team of 12. She proudly brought home a Light Rifle award from New Jersey, a testament to her skill and determination.
Ann’s influence extended beyond competitions. She was instrumental in coaching and mentoring young shooters at both state and national junior target shooting camps. Her passion for education and development inspired many to pursue excellence in shooting sports.
In recognition of her extraordinary service, Ann was awarded the Queen’s Australia Sports Medal in 2000 and the Bicentennial Award in 1988 for her outstanding contributions.
Ann was more than a leader; she was a role model, a mentor, and a friend to many. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she inspired and in the continued growth of the shooting sports community.
Ann did not wish to have a funeral, but to honour her memory, SSAA Sydney Branch will hold a Memorial Shoot at Silverdale Rifle Range in September 2025. Further details will be shared closer to the date.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ann’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Ann. Your contributions will forever be remembered.
