The SSAA (NSW) Sydney Branch Inc. was registered on 14 November 1991, under the NSW Associations Incorporation Act 2009 Registration Number Y1375326. Following our 2024 AGM where members approved a new branch constitution, we will transition to a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG), regulated by ASIC.

Our Aims & Objectives

To promote and improve the role of the sporting shooter in Australia.
To help educate young people in the skills of hunting, shooting and proper care and safe handling of firearms.
To encourage all hunters to abide by a strict code of ethics.
To work for a better understanding between landholder and Association member.
To actively advocate game conservation and assist appropriate authorities in game management programs.
To act as an effective and credible voice, representing all Australian shooters to the public, community leaders and authorities.

SSAA Code of Ethics

SSAA members undertake to adhere to the following basic ethical requirements (breach of which may result in suspension of membership or expulsion from the Association).
Having first obtained a landholder’s permission to shoot on his property, members consider themselves to be invited guests, so that they will be welcome on subsequent visits.
They obey the rules of safe firearm handling and diplomatically yet firmly insist others to do the same.
They obey relevant game laws and regulations.
They acquire marksmanship and hunting skills which will ensure clean harvesting of game.
They support game conservation programs.
And, most importantly, they pass on to youngsters the attitudes to game and conservation and the skills of safe firearms ownership which are the hallmark of the sporting shooter.

SSAA – How it works

SSAA adult membership costs $115 annually, with $65 going to SSAA National and $50 to SSAA NSW. Local branches may apply for a $12 reimbursement per adult member annually, though it’s not guaranteed. Members are automatically assigned to a local branch, with Sydney (N01) being the largest at 37,000 members.

The Sydney Branch wholly owns and operates Silverdale Rifle Range, which involves significant costs including staffing, maintenance, insurance, and more. The Sydney Branch also rents and staffs host ranges. Its board is made up of unpaid volunteers, with the possibility of an honorarium if approved at an AGM. The branch employs full-time and part-time staff across administrative, instructional, and operational roles.

Additionally, SSAA Sydney and SSAA NSW jointly own SSAA Pty Ltd, which operates the St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre. Profits (if any) are split 50/50, and both entities contribute to ongoing operational and maintenance costs. The centre includes a firearm dealer business staffed full-time.

Our Team

SSAA Sydney is proudly supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who generously donate countless hours of their personal time for the betterment of the branch. Our committee members are passionate about shooting sports and are committed to providing the best possible experience for all our members.

From maintaining our facilities, organising competitions, supporting local shooters, and advocating for our community, our volunteers play a vital role in keeping SSAA Sydney active, inclusive, and growing. Their ongoing dedication ensures our branch remains strong and future-focused.
